In the 25 years that the Rhein-Valley Hospital Association has been in existence, we have been confirmed time and again that health and education are inextricably linked. This is also true for our commitment near Mombasa. During my trip in May, I was able to observe that the interplay between the individual factors of the broad-based aid project is becoming increasingly visible. The clinic is running very well. It is enormously important for people. Many of them told me that the neighbourhood had changed: People are happier and more positive. The children can learn, illnesses are treated and the church, which our partner organisation Schilling for Shilling built next door, offers space for spirituality All of this contributes to mental well-being.
It was a great experience for me to watch the children and young people at a football tournament and playing basketball. They moved around the pitch with passion, showed team spirit and the will to win.
Our hospital manager Violet Maghangha lives and works with the people in Maji Moto. She knows what they need and what she can trust them to do.Sie weiss, was sie brauchen und was sie ihnen zutrauen kann. She and her team have succeeded in taking the fear of illness away from the population. The energy released can be used for more education. In the next step, we want to promote talented athletes. They are given meaningful work and develop a perspective. In the long term, training programmes in agriculture and skilled trades are also conceivable.
