The road from Nairobi towards Nakuru. One of the largest cities in Kenya. In a place where you would not expect civilization, about 50,000 people live on a range of hills in Kasambara-Gilgil. They have practically nothing, only their lives, their families and a meager dwelling. They feed on what the soil gives them. Medical treatment is an unattainable luxury for these people as long as they depend on the government hospital. Only patients are admitted there for a fee.
The Hospital of Hope – Rhein-Valley Hospital has been in existence since 2004. The association of the same name, based in the Rhine Valley of St. Gallen, knows that this hope must never be disappointed. This requires perseverance, stamina, local presence, education of the population and prevention, which is expressed, for example, in serial vaccinations of children.

The operating budget of Rhein-Valley Hospital is about 250,000 Swiss francs per year. With this, 40,000 to 50,000 treatments are carried out. Vaccination days are also held regularly, especially for children. Delivering clean drinking water also contributes to a healthier population. Because so many diseases such as cholera and typhoid can be avoided.
