“Our project is running almost perfectly.” That is how I described to the board my impressions of the trip to Kenya that our treasurer, Eveline Alder, and I undertook in March. The words may sound a little presumptuous, but they reflect my delight at just how motivated Violet Maghangha’s team is.
The head of the Medical Centre in Maji Moto is resourceful, innovative and organises everything independently in consultation with the board. She is a doctor with a strong professional network, which helps her to put her ideas into practice. Eveline and I were able to see for ourselves that Violet uses the donations sparingly and effectively and stays within the budget.

In April, she organised a medical camp. More than 200 patients came to our clinic. For one day, the focus was on people with eye problems and cancer screening. Some were quickly helped with a pair of glasses donated from Switzerland, whilst others were taken to a specialist clinic for further treatment. There will be further medical camps in the future, each with a specific medical focus. In her latest project, Violet is creating a garden. You can find out more about this here.
Manuela Imlig from Altstätten accompanied us on our visit and said: “I am grateful to have seen for myself how the team at Rhein Valley Hospital works and how the collaboration between the board in Switzerland and the team on the ground works.”
Geopolitical tensions around the world are making it difficult for us to secure the necessary funding. This makes it all the more important that we remain fully committed to our cause.
